Preparatory Department
The Preparatory Department of The Wallace High School is a co-educational, non-denominational, single stream primary school. When your child comes to this school we will do our best to ensure his/her happiness and educate him/her to his/her full potential.
The full Northern Ireland curriculum is taught and we encourage our pupils to achieve academic excellence. The majority of our pupils progress to the grammar school at the end of Key Stage 2.
We also consider the physical and cultural development of our children to be very important. To that end sport, music, dance, drama, information and communication technology, art and crafts all play a part in the school week.

Admission Criteria
The Trustees welcome applications for admission to the Preparatory Department. In the event that there are more applicants than places available, the preference for admission will be give in the following order to:
- Pupils who have a brother or sister enrolled in the Preparatory Department.
- Pupils whose twin or triplet sibling(s) has (have) already been admitted.
- Pupils whose parent(s) is/are currently in the permanent employment of The Wallace High School.
- Pupils who have a brother or sister who attended The Wallace High School.
- Pupils who have a parent who was a pupil of The Wallace High School.
- Other pupils.

The School Day
9.00am Morning school begins
10.30 - 10.45 am Break
12.25pm Lunch
1.15pm Afternoon school begins
2.00pm P1-P2 children finish school
2.45pm P3-P5 children finish school
3.20pm P6-P7 children finish school
Opening Time
To accommodate working parents’ children may be left into school from 8.30 am onwards.
Morning Assembly and Religious Education
Religious Education is taught to all classes. It has Christian values at its heart but children are made aware of other faiths and beliefs.
Morning assembly is compulsory for all pupils, unless a written note for a child to be excused is sent to school.
Links with the Grammar School
Our close links with the grammar school enable us to use some of their facilities and help to make the transition from the Preparatory Department a smooth one.
We make full use of the Boyd Sports hall and the gymnasium when available. The extensive sports grounds of the grammar school are also used whenever possible. Grammar school staff take P5, P6 and P7 pupils for PE and Games.
A school nurse is always on duty.
